Like why the streets and parks have American names while Manila has Spanish ones.. why heritage houses and monasteries became haunted.. favorite restos of city folks. First thing Anthony Bourdain does wherever he goes is to visit the market. Likes to experience the sights, the sounds, the excitement. Sadly, he never had the chance to visit Baguio market. He would have enjoyed it. Tourists do. But residents? Been there done that.

The bet to finish Kennon Road.

Bet you didn't know this. The 40-kilometer Kennon Road in the 1900s was built in just 18 months. Then Governor General Forbes challenged the builder that he cannot finish it on time. A proud military guy, Kennon accepted the bet. And won.
